Biochemist Dr. Gordon Alles (pronounced “al-eez”) synthesized amphetamines in 1929, in his search to create an antihistamine for allergic reaction. In June of 1929, Alles injected himself with 50 milligrams of the amphetamine salt, a high dosage even by modern standards, and wrote down his findings within his laboratory journal.
