The Etymology and Mythology of the Term “Amazon”

April 21, 2021June 2, 2021Leave a comment

The term “amazon” is Greek in origin and translates to mean “without a breast” in Greek, derived from the root terms “a” meaning “without” and “mazos” meaning “breast”. Greek mythology states that the Amazons were women who cut off their right breast in an effort to use bow and arrow weaponry to its maximum potential. It should be noted, it’s unclear if this mythology is based upon factual or fictional historical accounts
